Santa Barbara Shark Attack Sends Woman Into Ocean
SANTA BARBARA (CBS SF) -- A shark attack on an outrigger sent a Santa Barbara woman into the water Sunday.
An apparent Great White about six-feet long chewed at the woman's outrigger, causing her to fall into the water with the creature, but she was unharmed in the attack.
The shark swam away after biting twice.
The bites were on a part of the outrigger called the ama, which is used for balancing, according to KEYT TV in Santa Barbara.
No warning signs will be posted because of how far away from shore the attack occurred.
"We really don't see it as an immediate threat to the local public so we don't post advisories for something like this," Harbor Operations Director Mick Kronman told the station.
Two kayakers were recently rescued off the coast of Vandenberg Air Force Base in separate attacks just an hour apart.
