San Mateo Bridge To Close For Two Weekends In May

SAN MATEO (CBS SF) – People who rely on the San Mateo Bridge should find alternate routes as the bridge will be closed for construction work for two weekends in May.

According to a statement from Caltrans, the first weekend closure is scheduled from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8th through 5:00 a.m. on Monday, May 11th. A second closure is scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend from May 22nd to May 25th.

The agency says crews will use the closure to resurface the entire span of the bridge and replace expansion joints. Electrical cables and transformers will also be replaced.

Caltrans asks travelers to use the Dumbarton, Bay Bridge or Highway 237 as alternate routes. The road will be closed between Foster City Boulevard in Foster City and Clawiter Road in Hayward.

The closure could impact travel to several major Bay Area events. The San Francisco Giants are scheduled to play games at AT&T Park during the first closure, and the Oakland A's are playing at the O.co Coliseum on Memorial Day.
