San Mateo Police Investigate After 'Creepy Clown' Post Targets Schools

SAN MATEAO (CBS SF) – Police in San Mateo are investigating a social media post Wednesday about a subject dressed up as a clown showing up at two San Mateo high schools.

The post comes as social media threats of "creepy clowns" have been reported throughout the Bay Area and across the nation.

Police said no threats were made during the social media post Wednesday, and the San Mateo Police Department will continue to monitor the situation and provide a high level of presence at the schools.

Police are asking students not to engage in conversation with the people who are posting these hoaxes because it will only encourage those responsible to continue.

Police in Concord are investigating an incident on Wednesday in which a man dressed as a clown tried to take a 1-year-old child from his bus stop.
