San Mateo Bridge Work Finishes Ahead Of Schedule, Traffic Running Smoothly

SAN MATEO (CBS SF)-- The eastbound lanes of the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge are open Monday morning after crews finished weekend work on the span, a Caltrans spokesman said.

The eastbound lanes opened at about 4:20 a.m., spokesman Bob Haus said. The westbound lanes opened a short time ago.

Both directions of the bridge opened early than expected Monday morning after Caltrans officials closed the bridge all weekend to resurface and treat the deck and perform routine maintenance.
