San Leandro 7-Eleven Clerk Shot With Pellet Gun, Suspect Arrested

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) – A 7-Eleven clerk in San Leandro was shot in the face with a pellet gun while confronting a would-be robber outside the store Monday morning, police said.

The robber, later identified as 24-year-old Kevin Wooden of San Leandro, had store merchandise in his pockets when he approached the clerk in the 7-Eleven at 333 E. 14^th St. at about 8:30 a.m., police said.

Wooden allegedly put several live rounds of ammunition on the counter and told the clerk he was taking the things in his pockets. The clerk challenged Wooden, so he threw the things from his pockets on the floor and left.

The clerk followed Wooden out of the store but another 7-Eleven employee followed him out and told him to come back. As the clerk walked away, Wooden allegedly pulled out a pellet gun and shot the clerk in the face, police said.

The clerk was hit near the eye and the pellet lodged in his face, requiring surgery to remove.

Police officers arrived and saw Wooden walking on East 14^th Street, still carrying the pistol. He threw the pellet gun into a bush when he saw the officers and they arrested him.

Wooden was booked into jail on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
