San Jose Woman From The Philippines Deals With Nearly A Week Of No Hot Water At Apartment With Ease

SAN JOSE (KCBS)— The last thing you want on a cold winter morning is a cold shower, but that's exactly what residents of a San Jose apartment complex had to deal with for nearly a week after a large tree fell over last week, knocking out gas and hot water service.

Menclair Apartments, 560 Menker Ave. near San Jose City College, had gone without hot running water since the tree fell last Tuesday.

One resident, however, seems to be taking things in stride. Palma Zarate said she came from "a poor country", the Philippines, and to her, the problem has been minimal.

"We deal with this kind of problem," she said. "We have a big bucket and then we fill that with water and then we boil for hot water for us to take a bath."

While her positive attitude may be enviable, other residents were furious that the service had been shut off for nearly a week.

According to a letter sent off by the apartment complex's management, the repair work is done, but city inspectors have yet to sign off on the work as of the writing of this story. The city was expected to approve sometime on Monday.
