San Jose Woman Dead in Collision on Highway 101

SUNNYVALE (BCN) -- A crash that caused lane closures on Highway 101 early Sunday morning has been confirmed as a fatal accident by the CHP.

A 19-year-old woman died in a collision early Sunday on southbound U.S. Highway 101 in Sunnyvale, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman, a resident of San Jose, was driving a red Honda that veered left and hit the center median of the freeway about 3:10 a.m., the CHP said.

The Honda then drifted right, into the number 2 lane, and came to a stop. Two other vehicles hit the car after that, authorities said.

The woman died at the scene. Her name has not been released.

Lanes on southbound Highway 101 were closed after the crash and reopened shortly after 6 a.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but it's not believed that drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision, the CHP said.
