Crews rescue San Jose tree worker in distress dangling from tree
A worker in distress was dangling from a tree in San Jose before rescuers managed to reach him and bring him down on Friday morning, authorities said.
The incident began at about 10:10 a.m. at a home in the city's Hillsdale neighborhood on Sunburst Drive east of Monterey Road and north of Capitol Expressway.
The San Jose Fire Department said worker was attached to a palm tree and experienced a medical emergency. The worker was hanging from the top of a tree in a harness about 75 feet above the ground.
The worker appeared to be moving his hand as a Cal Fire rescuer was lowered by helicopter to reach him at about 11:30 a.m. The rescuer managed to remove the worker from the tree and the helicopter brought them both down to the ground, where the worker was immediately rushed to a hospital.
The Fire Department said the worker was conscious at the time at the time he was transported and was in critical condition.
This incident reflects strong coordination between SJFD and CAL FIRE to ensure the individual was rescued as quickly and safely as possible.
