San Jose State Kicks Off $126 Construction Project To Add More Dorms
SAN JOSE (KCBS)— Construction is underway at San Jose State University where a new student dormitory tower is being built.
With a wait list for on-campus housing at nearly 500, many students are eager to finally have a shot at living on campus.
The $126 million project is one of the university's biggest in recent memory.
SJSU Facilities Director Chris Brown said the 10-story tower will have room for over 800 students, specifically freshmen who want to live on campus.
"Commuter kids they really, I think, miss out. It's a special thing living in dorms," Brown said.
Jessica Ayala agreed. The Spartan senior was wait-listed before she had her first on-campus housing.
"I think it will build a bigger sense of community and maybe encourage more people to want to live on campus instead of just coming to school and going home," Ayala said.
The project should be completed by the fall of 2016.
