San Jose Nonprofit Short 2,200 Thanksgiving Turkeys For Needy

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – Staff at Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose have been providing holiday food boxes to less fortunate families since 1964, but this year they are short 2,200 turkeys to go with the Thanksgiving meals, the group's officials said Sunday.

The Thanksgiving food distribution begins Monday morning at 9 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. Wednesday when 4,200 families will pick up fresh vegetables, bread and pantry items.

As of Sunday only 2,000 will get turkeys. Anyone who is able to help can bring a turkey or turkeys to the group's donation center at 1381 S. First St. on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
