San Jose Postal Inspector Arrested, Accused Of Stealing & Destroying Mail

SAN JOSE (CBS/AP) -- A San Jose postal inspector has been arrested and charged with stealing and destroying mail.

A criminal complaint filed in U.S. District court earlier this week said alleges that Quan Pham Howard stole gift cards, prescription pills, silver and copper bars, passports, marijuana and $5,000 in cash. The complaint said hidden cameras caught Howard rummaging through mail on several occasions and taking the items alleged.

Investigators said Howard violated post office policy by asking an employee to let him know whenever cash, drugs and other valuables are found in open or damaged mail.

He was charged with theft, possession of stolen mail and delaying or destroying U.S. mail.
