San Jose Police Shoot Man Attacking Mom With Axe
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – San Jose police officers shot a 26-year-old man early Wednesday as he was attacking his mother with an axe in a quiet South San Jose neighborhood, authorities said.
Officers responded at 7:11 a.m. to a call of a disturbance in the area of Lansing and Jarvis avenues and saw the 26-year-old suspect wield an ax and attack a woman who was later identified as his mother, police Lt. Tom Sims said.

Two officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect, according to Sims. The suspect was taken to a hospital.
The victim was also taken to a hospital. She was able to speak to officers before being transported, Sims said. He said the officers were not injured.
Authorities later confirmed that the woman and the suspect were both in stable condition.
Sims said the incident unfolded quickly with no time for negotiations before the officers opened fire.
Neighbor Tricia Harvey said that, while they were known as a quiet family, the son had a history of mental issues.
"I guess he's been having some mental health problems recently," said Harvey. "I know he was at the mental hospital about a month ago."
