San Jose police investigate shooting that left man in critical condition

SAN JOSE -- Police in the South Bay are investigating a shooting Wednesday afternoon that hospitalized an adult male victim who later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said units responded to a call at around 3:20 p.m. regarding a shooting incident on the 2000 block of Beatrice Court near the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. 

Arriving officers found one adult male who was critically injured. He was transported to an area hospital.

Traffic was impacted on Princess Anne Drive and Beatrice Court while police investigate. The public was asked to avoid the area.

Shortly after 9 p.m., police confirmed that the victim had died and the incident was being investigated as a homicide.

Thursday morning, police said the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. Authorities said the suspect in the shooting has been identified, but is not in custody. 

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after it is confirmed and next of kin has been notified.

Police said the fatal shooting is San Jose's 16th homicide of 2023.
