UPDATE: Man Arrested For Arson After 2-Alarm House Fire Displaces 7 People In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A man was arrested on suspicion of arson after a two-alarm fire burned at a home in San Jose late Sunday night.
The San Jose Fire Department said crews were initially dispatched at 10:20 p.m. to N. 6th St. between E. St. John and E. St. James street to reports of a fire inside an apartment. Crews found an active fire on the second floor of a two-story Victorian house converted into apartments.
A second alarm was called at 10:29 p.m. and the fire was knocked down at 10:48 p.m., SJFD said. The Red Cross was called to assist seven people who were displaced along with three cats.
An unidentified man was seen hurling objects from inside the home from a second-story balcony and he was arrested for arson. San Jose police said detectives will take the case to the district attorney's office to see if there are further charges pending for setting fire to the structure while it was occupied.
Crews eventually cleared the fire scene just after 2 a.m. Monday.
Detail of the alleged arson were not immediately available.
No one was injured in the fire.
