Light Rail Train Fatally Strikes 14-Year-Old Girl In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - A 14-year-old girl on a bicycle died after she was struck by a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light-rail train in San Jose Friday morning, according to the Santa Clara County sheriff's office.
Danika Tyler Garcia was struck around 7:30 a.m. at Stokes Street near Southwest Expressway, according to the sheriff's office.
"The train was traveling north and the cyclist went into the path of the train. The accident is under investigation," said VTA spokeswoman Bernice Alaniz on Friday morning.
She was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to those injuries, sheriff's officials said.

VTA officials said there were about 40 passengers on the train that hit the girl. Those passengers were transferred to a bus because train service was disrupted.
