San Jose Church Goes Up In Flames
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A converted home at a church went up in flames Friday morning in San Jose and firefighters were able to extinguish it before it spread to nearby houses, a fire captain said.
Crews responded to a report of a blaze in the area of Minnesota and Curtiss avenues at about 5:30 a.m., fire Capt. Mike Van Elgort said.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the structure, according to Van Elgort.
Because of nearby trees and homes, a second alarm was called, he said.
Van Elgort said a detached rear room of a church caught fire, and responding crews were able to quickly knock it down.
The fire was deemed under control by 6:15 a.m., he said. No injuries were reported.
The cause remains under investigation.
