San Jose Car Torching Caught On Camera

SAN JOSE (KCBS) — An East San Jose family woke up in fear early Tuesday morning as both of their cars burst into flames in their driveway.

Police suspect it was the work of arsonists after viewing the surveillance video system installed at the home.

The family's SUV bust into flames at about 2:21 a.m. and quickly spread to their other vehicle in the driveway at their home in the 2800 block of Sand Point Drive.

Vince Tran told KCBS that, previously, vandals have poured paint on his vehicles and punctured the tires with a knife.

"This is the third time, I guess something needs to be done," he said.  Tran has since set up elaborate surveillance cameras to try to catch the culprits.

"We got some footage of the assailants dousing the car with some kind of fluid and then thereafter lighting the car on fire."

There were no injuries reported but both cars had to be towed away revealing scorched cement in the driveway.

A police investigation is underway.
