San Francisco's Slanted Door Named California's Highest Grossing Independent Eatery

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The Slanted Door, one of San Francisco's most popular restaurants, is also the top grossing independently-owned eatery in California, according to a restaurant industry publication.

Restaurant Business magazine said the Ferry Building eatery known for its top notch Vietnamese cuisine raked in $16.5 million last year. The publication said the number is impressive because the average tab is estimated at $48 per person.

Among restaurants nationwide, the Slanted Door is 22nd highest grossing independent restaurant overall. The top grossing independent restaurant in the country is the Tao Asian Bistro in Las Vegas, which grossed $64 million and the average tab is $75 per person.

Other restaurants in the Bay Area that made the Top 100 list include Scoma's in Sausalito (32nd, $15.3 million), Boulevard along San Francisco's Embarcadero (63rd, $12.8 million) and the Cliff House (75th, $11.7 million).
