San Francisco's Main Branch Library Closes Early Because Of Plumbing Issue
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF)_ The San Francisco Public Library's main branch closed its doors early on Wednesday after a plumbing issue rendered the building unfit for workers, a library spokeswoman said.
The main branch library, which is located at 100 Larkin St. will closed at 5 p.m. for emergency maintenance, library spokeswoman Michelle Jeffers said.
The building's entire plumbing system stopped working around 4 p.m.
Jeffers said toilets are not flushing, which is an "inconvenience to patrons and a hazard to employees."
The library usually closes at 8 p.m., but workers are being sent home at 5 p.m. today.
Jeffers said this is the first instance of a major plumbing issue closing the library early since she began working at the main branch six years ago.
The cause of the plumbing issue has not yet been determined.
Jeffers is hopeful that the library will open as scheduled Thursday morning.
