San Francisco's Doyle Drive Closure Postponed

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)-- The planned closure of San Francisco's Doyle Drive originally scheduled for the weekend of May 28th through June 1st has now been postponed.

The California Highway Patrol originally announced new dates for the shutdown for the weekend of June 11th through the 14th, but a spokesperson for the contractor told KCBS that a new shutdown weekend has not yet been designated.

San Francisco County Transportation Authority spokesman Eric Young said the holdup has to do with the project seeking certification from the fire marshal on the tunnel's fire safety system. The tunnels along the roadway still need to undergo testing, according to Young, but the good news is that he says it's not a major problem or roadblock.

The six-year, $1 billion project and the roadwork involved is said to be critical to opening the roadway.
