San Francisco Zoo Set To Show Off Cute Red Panda Cub

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The San Francisco Zoo is set to have one of its newest residents, a 10-month old red panda, make its public debut.

The SF Zoo says the male red panda cub will make his debut on May 10th in a custom tree house built by a crew from the Animal Planet show Treehouse Masters.

Red pandas, native to the eastern Himalayas and western China, are more closely related to the weasel family than the giant panda, and normally grow to be slightly larger than a domestic cat.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources says red pandas are classified as a vulnerable species threatened by loss of habitat, poaching and inbreeding depression.

The Animal Planet appearance by the new SF Zoo baby will be televised sometime in June.
