San Francisco Unemployment Hits Record Low Of 3.8 Percent; State Jobless Rate Drops

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The Employment Development Department released updated figures Friday showing that unemployment is down statewide and at a record low in the City of San Francisco.

California's unemployment rate dropped to 7 percent in December, down from 7.2 percent in November and 8.3 percent in December of 2013.

Locally, San Francisco's unemployment rate dropped to 3.8 percent in December, down half a point from 4.3 percent in October.

Mayor Ed Lee issued a statement saying these figures demonstrate that San Francisco's economic policies are working.

"Making sure our residents have access to good jobs remains among my highest priorities," Lee said. "To do this, we will continue to invest in jobs, education, transportation and affordable housing for working families."

Marin County the lowest unemployment rate in the region at 3.4 percent, and Monterey County had one of the highest at 10.7 percent.

Imperial County, in the southeast corner of the state, currently holds the highest unemployment rate at 21 percent. Those figures are based on a federal survey of 5,500 California households.
