United's 16-Hour Nonstop SFO-Singapore To Be Longest Scheduled Flight On Any U.S. Carrier

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A flight from San Francisco International Airport to Singapore will be the longest scheduled flight on any U.S. carrier when service begins June 1, United Airlines officials announced Thursday.

The flight to Singapore's Changi Airport is 8,446 miles long on the world's latest passenger plane, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

The flight is also the longest scheduled 787 flight on any carrier, according to United Airlines.

Passengers will be in the air for about 16 hours and 20 minutes on their way to Singapore and about 15 hours and 30 minutes from Singapore to San Francisco.

The nonstop service will save passengers up to four hours each way, compared with United's current one-stop service and schedules on other carriers, United officials said.
