Top Brass At San Francisco Sheriff's Department Get Back Pay For Dressing Up

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) – Dozens of top brass in the San Francisco Sheriff's Department are getting back pay for, among other things, getting dressed.

The city will pay $1.3 million to settle a suit brought by as many as 90 current and former captains, lieutenants and sergeants.

They claimed they weren't paid for getting into their uniforms, getting briefed before their shift and answering work calls and texts from home.

"People felt unappreciated, the work was unappreciated," Captain Lisette Adams, president of the San Francisco Sheriff's Managers and Supervisors Association, told KPIX 5.

"We were giving approximately 35 minutes to 40 minutes a day for free to the city. And when we brought the issue to the city, all we were seeking was compensation going forward," Adams also said.

The settlement was back pay for five years. Whether the city should continue to pay is in arbitration.
