San Francisco Runner Completes 7 Marathons On 7 Continents In 7 Days

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - A San Francisco man has traveled a really long way to prove he can run a really long way.

Thirty-one-year old Tim Durbin is the only American to complete the World Marathon Challenge that started last Saturday and ended in Sydney, Australia Friday morning.

The World Marathon Challenged confirmed that Durbin completed the final race in just under five hours, finishing 7th among the races on the final leg.

James Danaher and Tim Durbin have finished in times of 4:53:27 and 4:55;34, respectively. Two more people who have achieved 7 Marathons on 7 Continents in 7 Days.

And later posted a photo of his completion medal

Prior to the Sydney run, Durbin completed races in Antarctica, Chile, Miami, Madrid, Morocco and Dubai. He undertook the journey to raise money for the V Foundation for cancer research.

Durbin averaged about 5 ½ hours over the first six 26.2-mile runs.

Durbin said in an email that the Morocco marathon was the toughest. It started less than 7 hours after he completed the race in Spain.

Shortly after Durbin completed the race, Marianna Zaikova became the first woman ever to complete the challenge.
