San Francisco Rated Most Dog-Friendly City In America

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Woof.. Woof! That's the sound of all the happy dogs in San Francisco.

They're happy because the priciest place to live in the U.S. is also the most dog-friendly city in America, according to a study by SmartAsset. That's right. San Francisco. The same city with the highest cost of living is the best place to raise a dog.

The folks at SmartAsset compared 100 U.S. cities and gave them grades based on the number of dog parks, dog-friendly restaurants and shopping centers, walkability, home values and rain-free days. Out of a possible 100, San Francisco got a perfect score!

Turns out, the City by the Bay has the seventh most dog parks per 100,000 people. There are 174 dog-friendly places to dine. And when it comes to walking, second to New York City, its the most walkable city in the country.

As for the weather? Yes, it rains, but not nearly as much as Portland or Seattle. The number of annual days of precipitation is only 40 compared to more than 100 days in our neighboring cities to the North.

So, the next time see a four-legged canine companion loping alongside its human in San Francisco, look closer. That is one LUCKY dog!
