Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run Near San Francisco's Broadway Tunnel

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in a hit and run crash near San Francisco's Broadway Tunnel early Friday morning.

According to the San Francisco Police, the crash took place at Powell and Broadway in the city's Chinatown, near Jean Parker Elementary School, around 6:00 a.m.

According to KPIX 5's Anne Makovec, the victim was a man in his 60s who lived in the neighborhood.

Police said the victim was found about three yards away from the crosswalk. It is unclear if the man was in the crosswalk or in the middle of the roadway when he was hit.

Authorities are searching for a white van with no back windows that was in the area at the time of the crash. The vehicle may have some front end damage.

Police are looking for surveillance tape to try to identify the driver.

The Broadway Tunnel was blocked for about two hours as police investigated. Both directions of Broadway were open as of 8:30 a.m.
