San Francisco Parking Meters To Offer New Payment Options
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Drivers in San Francisco will soon receive more options to pay for parking at nearly 25,000 of the city's parking meters.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is replacing older meters with so-called "smart meters" that will accept payment five different ways.
People paying for parking can still use coins, but they can also use credit cards, debit cards, and transit agency cards. Paying by phone is also an option.
According to the San Francisco Examiner, crews are currently working on meters in Twin Peaks, West Portal, Central Richmond, and Outer Richmond, along with the Port of San Francisco. Installation of the new meters has already been completed in the Inner Sunset, Noriega, Taraval, Balboa, Lower Haight, Haight, and Cole Valley.
Each new single-space meter costs $515 to upgrade, making the total cost $12.8 million.
The installation of the new meters should be finished by next February.
