San Francisco, Oakland Grab 2 Spots On List Of Best Cities For Coffee Lovers

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Two Bay Area cities grabbed two of the top five spots on a new list of places to be for coffee lovers in the U.S.

The smartasset study revealed that there is a staggering 300 coffeehouses per 100,000 residents in San Francisco, giving it the densest concentration of any U.S. city, and helping it land the fourth spot out of ten on the list.  Oakland took fifth place in the U.S.

Coffee drinkers we spoke with in San Francisco weren't surprised it made the list.

"I would think San Francisco would be at the top of any list that has any taste and is edible, right? We know what's best here," one very confident coffee drinker in San Francisco told KCBS.

Oakland doesn't have the same concentration of shops as San Francisco, but it does boast 18 shops with 4.5 star ratings.  Oakland is also home to Blue Bottle Coffee.

Most longtime coffee lovers could guess that Seattle fared pretty well in the rankings, and they would be right.  Seattle took home the top spot on the list.

Here are the ten cities that made the list, and their rankings:

  1. Seattle
  2. New Orleans
  3. Portland
  4. San Francisco
  5. Oakland
  6. San Diego
  7. Austin
  8. Denver
  9. Honolulu
  10. Washington, D.C.
