San Francisco Man Identified As Suspect In Violent South Bay Rampage

LOS GATOS (CBS SF) – A 43-year-old San Francisco man was identified as the suspect arrested on murder, false imprisonment and other charges in a homicide at a home in unincorporated Los Gatos and subsequent fatal police chase, authorities said Thursday.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department said Andre Redmon was in custody on charges stemming from a murder at a home on Madrone Drive Wednesday morning. A second man also died during the ensuing high-speed pursuit on Highway 17.

Deputies responded at about 10:50 a.m. to reports of shots fired and arrived to find a man fatally wounded in a home, sheriff's Sgt. James Jensen said.

Two other men were also found injured in the home. One was treated at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, Jensen said. He did not know the nature of the injuries.

The victims and witnesses described the suspect vehicle in the shooting as a Toyota Prius and deputies eventually located it in the area of state Highway 17 and Lark Ave.

The Prius exited the highway at East Hamilton Avenue and crashed into a wall. The driver – identified as Redmon -- fled on foot but was quickly detained by deputies.

A male passenger in the Prius was found injured and was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

In his mugshot, Redmon's eyes appear red and swollen and he is wearing a hospital gown.

That was a result of deputies using pepper spray when they took him into custody. Authorities later took him to hospital to for treatment.

It was unclear whether Redmon knew the victims at the home in Los Gatos. Because he has so far remained silent, investigators also don't know a possible motive.

"This is a complicated case due to the fact of how many moving crime scenes they were," said Santa Clara County Sheriffs Sgt. James Jensen. "How many potential victims and potential suspects there are involved in this case."

The identities of the two people who died have not yet been released.
