San Francisco Looks To Build Housing For Its Teachers
When educators leave the San Francisco Unified School District, union spokesman Matthew Hardy often hears that it's because of the cost of living. And it costs the district thousands of dollars to replace them.
The union has been working with the district and the mayor's office on a plan to build employee housing.
Teachers and other district workers could benefit from the effort.
Senator Mark Leno's bill to allow it having just been signed into law, the district is identifying a couple of properties it already owns as potential housing sites.
Hardy expects all workers, at every stage of their careers, will be eligible, and hopes the housing will be welcoming to those ready to start a family.
