San Francisco Getting Street Light Makeover With New LED's

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco's streets are getting a makeover with new LED street lights.

The old sodium street lights that have kept the city lit in a 1970's era glow are being replaced.

"We have a really old and deteriorated street light system. It's important to modernize it," Supervisor Scott Weiner said.

Weiner is leading the push for the new lights.

"More reliable, they last longer, they're more energy efficient and it's a much higher quality of light," Weiner says.

San Francisco has 45,000 street lights, and PG&E owns about half of those.
