San Francisco 49ers Deny Reports Of Trying To Block Joe Montana Hotel Project
SANTA CLARA (KCBS) – The San Francisco 49ers strongly denied reports that they are trying to block a hotel development project in Santa Clara by former star quarterback Joe Montana, over parking spaces for Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
Montana told The Santa Clara Weekly that he fully understands the team has the right to 789 parking spaces on land where he plans to build his development.
San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York on Thursday said they weren't trying to block Montana's project.
"Joe talked about a great working relationship with us and like any large development plan, it takes time to get things done," York said. "We've had a great relationship with Joe, we have a great relationship with the city, and we'll make sure we find a creative solution to all of the things that need to be done."
49ers President Paraag Marathe said there never was a parking space dispute.
"We have certain rights to those lots. He's known about it from the beginning of his project idea," Marathe said. "We're working through it right now to actually see if we can do something together, in partnership."
Meanwhile, nearby Mission College has announced it has signed a deal to provide 2,200 parking spaces.
