Saint Francis Statue At Candlestick Park Looking For New Home

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The statue of Saint Francis of Assisi at the soon to be demolished Candlestick Park will be placed into storage, as city officials seek a new home for the artwork.

According to San Francisco Chronicle columnists Matier & Ross, the steel and concrete statue by Ruth Wakefield Cravath will be moved from the ballpark and refurbished. The estimated cost of the project is expected to range from $150,000 to $200,000.

A new location for the statue has not been determined. The San Francisco Arts Commission told the Chronicle that the statue could return to the new neighborhood that will replace Candlestick or to another park in the city.

The statue was installed at the ballpark in 1973 after the project to add seats and enclose the stadium for the 49ers.
