'Safe & Sane' Fireworks Still Illegal In San Leandro As Police Increase Patrols For Holiday Weekend

SAN LEANDRO (CBS SF) -- The San Leandro police department is increasing patrols this week in preparation for Fourth of July weekend, reminding residents and visitors that fireworks are illegal in San Leandro.

Police said even fireworks considered "safe and sane" are illegal to posses and use within the city.

According to police, all violators are subject to citation or arrest.

Police encourage residents and visitors to immediately report the use of illegal fireworks and or other suspicious activity.

Lt. Robert McManus said in a statement, "Our zero-tolerance policy on fireworks, coupled with assistance from our community in quickly reporting illegal activities, will allow for a safe and enjoyable holiday for everyone."
