Sacramento Sheriff's Police Dog Stabbed During Arrest

SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- Sacramento authorities say a police dog is recovering after being stabbed in the head multiple times while trying to apprehend a suspect in Carmichael.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says Jedi, a 3-year-old German Shepherd, underwent surgery and is expected to recover from the Saturday attack.

Officers were searching for the 41-year-old suspect after receiving a tip from a state parole officer about a domestic violence incident.

The department said in a statement that the suspect, a convicted sex offender, led officers on a slow-speed pursuit before they were able to arrest him.

The department says the man was taken to a hospital with dog bite injuries.

He was later transported to Sacramento County Jail where he is being held without bail for violating his parole.
