Robert H. Schuller, Crystal Cathedral Megachurch Founder Dead At 88

(CBS SF) -- Robert H. Schuller, the founder of one of the first megachurches, Crystal Cathedral in Orange County has died.

His daughter, Carol Schuller Milner said the famous televangelist died at a care facility in Artesia. Schuller had esophageal cancer for the last two years.

His "Hour of Power" ministry began in 1970, reaching millions.

Schuller was one of the first to pioneer using technoology, especially television, to reach the masses. WATCH: CBS Sunday Morning Report

Schuller's family cut ties with the famous church he founded in 2012 amid a tumultuous leadership change and bankruptcy.

His grandson, Bobby Schuller now continues the Hour of Power ministries on television and leads other Southern California churches.
