Robbery Suspect Who Led CHP On Chase From Antioch To Oakland Arrested After Taking Hostage

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A bank-robbery suspect was arrested after a pursuit from Antioch ended in Oakland Saturday evening, according to a California Highway Patrol and Oakland police officer.

Oakland police responded to a report of a highway chase that entered the city around 6:40 p.m., Oakland police Officer J. Moore said.

Police said the suspect robbed a bank inside an Antioch grocery store then fled to Oakland.

The suspect abandoned his car near the intersection of Capistrano and Topanga drives near the border of San Leandro.

Police said he then took a hostage inside an apartment. A SWAT team was called in, the hostage was released and the suspect was arrested.
