Richmond Police said officers killed a man on Monday after responding to a 911 call about someone with knives threatening people inside a home.

Officers went to the 400 block of First Street to respond to the call around 5 p.m. and heard a disturbance when they arrived, police said.

When the officers announced who they were, the man allegedly went to the door and confronted them while armed with at least one "edged weapon," according to police. The two officers then shot and killed him during the confrontation, police said.

The 400 block of First Street was shut down after the shooting, and it remained closed for several hours.
