Richmond Ferry Terminal Project Approved By County Officials
RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- Richmond commuters are one step closer to being able to take a ferry directly to San Francisco.
A plan to establish ferry service between Richmond and San Francisco was approved by Contra Costa County water officials on Thursday.
The Water Emergency Transportation Authority voted to approve an agreement with the Contra Costa Transportation Authority Board to begin implementing ferry service in Richmond.
Now that the board has given its approval, the water authority can move forward to secure funding for the project. The WETA plans to rely on a mix of federal, state and regional funding to cover the cost of building the ferries and the terminal.
The terminal will be constructed at Ford Peninsula. Ferry riders can expect to see service in 2018.
