Residents Raise More Than $11,000 For Sebastopol Police Dog's Chemotherapy
SEBASTOPOL (CBS SF) -- A Sebastopol police dog named "Frank" is attracting a lot of attention and money this week.
The seven-year-old German shepherd was diagnosed last week with a deadly form of lymphoma and needs a 19-week course of chemotherapy.
According to The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Frank's handler, Sebastopol Police Sgt. Nick Belliveau, has received more than $11,000 to pay for the chemo.
Veterinarians said the treatment has a 90 percent chance of successfully putting the cancer in complete remission, but because it's unlikely Frank will return to police duty, it's been unclear who would pay for the treatment.
Belliveau calls the generosity of the town's residents "unbelievable."
