Republican Catharine Baker Leads Tim Sbranti In Hotly Contested East Bay Assembly Race

PLEASANTON (KCBS) — In a closely watched East Bay State Assembly race, Republican Catharine Baker appears to have come out on top for the District 16 Assembly.

With all precincts reporting, Baker is leading Democrat Tim Sbranti 51.4 percent to 48.6 percent. There are, however, an unknown number of absentee and provisional ballot that remain to be counted.

The district stretches east of the Berkeley hills from Orinda to Walnut Creek to the Tri-Valley.

The seat was previously held by Joan Buchanan, who termed out of office.
