Northbound I-880 Reopens In Oakland After Freeway Shooting Investigation

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Authorities in Oakland have reopened northbound I-880 after closing lanes for about an hour to investigate a shooting that left two people injured, according to the CHP.

The shooting took place at around 3:33 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Two people were traveling in a gray Honda Accord when they were shot at on northbound I-880, south of 23rd Street in Oakland. The victims suffered moderate gunshot wounds.

The unknown suspect possibly fled the scene, CHP said. Investigators believe the shooting appears to have been targeted. The suspect was in a white Jeep Cherokee with temporary license plates.

The incident closed all lanes south of 23rd and investigators were on the scene.

All lanes of northbound I-880 were closed while officers look for evidence, but they were reopened shortly after 5 p.m.

Motorists were advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes.
