WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) -- Police arrested a man Sunday in Walnut Creek on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

A citizen saw the man, James Beldin, 52, at about 1:20 p.m. in the San Miguel Center at 1270 Newell Ave., according to police.

Beldin was a parolee at large and a registered sex offender, police said.

Officers found Beldin's vehicle in a parking lot and arrested him near the intersection of Broadway and Newell Avenue after pursuing him briefly on foot, police said.

Beldin allegedly attempted to photograph the underwear of a female in a skirt earlier in the day in Walnut Creek, according to police.
