Redwood City Police Using Pinterest To Get Stolen Property Back To Theft Victims

REDWOOD CITY (CBS SF) - The Redwood City Police Department is using social media to match theft victims with their stolen property.

Police officers are using Pinterest to upload photos of recovered property, the majority of which is bicycles and jewelry

The department has also uploaded pictures of stolen property recovered from other police agencies on the Peninsula.

The site is already achieving some success – two recent victims of residential burglaries were able to identify some of their missing jewelry on the site, according to the department.

Redwood City is joining an increasing number of other police departments nationwide in using Pinterest to post not just stolen property, but also mugshots and community news.

People accessing the site do not need to be a registered Pinterest user to view the images.
