Recent Navy Recruit From Pittsburg Dies Aboard Ship Stationed In Japan

PITTSBURG (CBS SF) -- Police in Pittsburg issued a statement Saturday regarding the sudden death of a Pittsburg resident aboard a Navy ship stationed in Japan earlier this month.

Seaman Danyelle Luckey had recently joined the Navy and was assigned to the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan near Japan, according to a statement by Capt. Michael Donnelly.

"We are saddened to learn of the death of the passing of Pittsburg resident Danyelle Luckey. Our sincere condolences to Danyelle's family and friends," the police statement said.

Danyelle died suddenly Monday, Oct. 10, while onboard the ship, according the Donnelly's statement.

While Donnelly's statement did not release details surrounding Luckey's death, the statement said her death has come "as a tragic shock to her shipmates."
