Rape Reported At SFSU Dorm Over The Weekend

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A person at San Francisco State University who was apparently incapable of consent reported being raped at a dorm on campus early Saturday morning, according to campus police.

SFSU spokesman Jonathan Morales said campus police are investigating the alleged sexual assault that reportedly occurred at Mary Ward Hall at 3 a.m. Saturday.

The victim reported the assault to police about three hours later, according to campus police.

Morales said that in order to preserve the victim's privacy, he was unable to say whether the victim was a student at the university.

Morales said in order to preserve the "integrity of the investigation," he was also unable to say whether anyone had been apprehended and did not release any possible suspect information.

Other than a short summary of the incident in the SFSU Police Department's crime log, the university community has not been sent a warning or notice of the incident, Morales said.

The crime log states that the victim of the rape was incapable of consent, but does not elaborate on why they were incapable.

The university's most recent statistics indicate that in 2013 there were four reported rapes in the on-campus residence community, one report of sexual battery and seven domestic violence reports on campus.

In 2014, SFSU had five reported rapes in the on-campus residence community, as well as three reports of sexual battery and four reports of dating violence on campus, according to the report.

Mary Ward Hall, the dorm where the alleged rape occurred, is a six-story on-campus residence hall on Font Boulevard off 19th Avenue housing roughly 420 students, including about eight resident assistants.

The building has a front desk attendant 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, according to the university.
