Ramp Closure In San Jose Creates Back Up For Morning Commuters
SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- The connector ramp from northbound I-880 to southbound Highway 101 is closed in San Jose Tuesday morning for emergency repairs that were supposed to be completed by 5 a.m. but according to the California Highway Patrol, it may not reopen until 5 p.m.
Caltrans has been working on the heavily-used connector based on complaints about asphalt-road failure but CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt told KCBS that the repairs have not gone smoothly.
"Apparently overnight, they were unable to make those repairs. They've had some additional equipment fail that is continuing to cause problems," he said.
A Sig-Alert was issued at 4:14 a.m., but Van Eckhardt said that as a result of the complications, the ramp will now be closed until 5 p.m.
Drivers are being directed to take the next off-ramp and make a u-turn, or get off on the northbound connector ramp and come back on the southbound side.
UPDATE:
The Sig-alert was cancelled about 8:15 a.m. and the ramp to northbound I-880 to southbound Highway101 is now open. Emergency repairs have been completed ahead of schedule.
