Pride Parade Draws Hundreds Of Thousands To SF Market Street

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- From coast to coast and around the world, parades celebrating LGBT pride were underway Sunday.

In San Francisco, the parade got started Sunday morning at Beale and Market streets and continues on Market Street to Eighth Street.

San Francisco's Gay Pride event is in its 44th year, this year's theme is "Color Our World With Pride."

An estimated half million people were expected to attend the event.

The festivities take place throughout the Civic Center Plaza area until 6:30pm Sunday evening.

This year's festivities take place in an eventful year since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the statute that denied federal recognition to same-sex marriages and cleared the way for gay couples to wed legally in California. Since then, seven more states legalized same-sex marriage, boosting the total to 19, plus Washington, D.C
