Pregnant Woman Shot During Antioch Easter Celebration

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- A pregnant woman was the victim of a shooting that occurred during an Easter family gathering in Antioch, according to a police report released Monday.

The incident began at 9:42 p.m. on March 27, when Antioch police officers heard gunshots in the area of Sycamore Drive.

Reports later led the officers to a residence on Spanos Street where a pregnant woman had suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back during a family gathering, police said.

Family members were already taking her a hospital for treatment.  It was later determined that she suffered a minor laceration from a bullet fragment and the fetus was not in danger, police said.

The officers met at the scene with about 20 family members, some of whom were "extremely hostile toward police" and most were uncooperative, police said.

In order to assist with controlling the growing crowd and to maintain the crime scene, Brentwood and Pittsburg police officers responded as well, police said.

Once the scene was secured, officers located shell casings from a .45-caliber gun, police said. An iron gate with damage from bullets was also found.

Investigators are following up on leads in connection with a potential suspect. Police were not immediately available to provide further information on the case.
